Metallic eye makeup is one of the hottest beauty trends this season. Although mostly used in the bold, sultry, smoky eyes that are popular by night, a shimmery sheen is a great way to add a hint of sparkle to your daytime makeup, too. Try these three looks to spice up your autumn afternoons — without overdoing it.

Black Liner Embellished with Metallic Shadow

Black eyeliner is always in. Whether you’re wearing a classic cat-eye or keeping things simple with a heavy line around the rims, you can embellish black liner’s sleek appeal by adding some shimmering eye shadow to the mix.

Pull off this look: Create a thick, black line along your upper and lower lashes with a kohl pencil. Brush silver or shimmering gray shadow along the upper lash line, then blend lightly with a smudging brush to create some depth.

Metallic Touches on the Lower Lash Line

A new trend on the fall runways is a sweep of silver or shimmering white eye shadow on the lower lash line. This is a great way to bring out and widen your eyes.

Pull off this look: Using white liner, draw along your lower lash line only, then highlight the area with a dusting of metallic silver eye shadow.

Brow-Bone Highlights

One of the easiest ways to accentuate your eyes is to highlight the brow bone with shimmering eye shadow. Play up the metallics this fall with silver, bronze, or gold shadow applied all the way around your brow bone and upper lid. This layer of metallic eye shadow can serve as your base color for a daytime smoky eye or the frame of a simple cat-eye this season.

Pull off this look: Add a thin layer of eye-shadow primer to your eyelids and brow bone, then apply metallic eye shadow evenly over the area. Layer with a matte color for contrast or keep things simple with black or brown eyeliner around the rims of your eyes.
