Say good-bye to unsightly morning raccoon eyes. Keep your delicate facial skin healthy and vibrant by wiping away the day’s makeup each evening — without using a harsh, chemical-laden scrub.

Did you know natural makeup removers are hiding in your kitchen pantry? Some of the ingredients you’ve got stashed away in your home can tackle even the most stubborn waterproof mascara and lip stain. Try one of these for a fresher, smoother, makeup-free face:

  1. Coconut Oil. If you like a creamy makeup remover, you’ll love coconut oil. It’s semisolid at room temperature, making it easy to apply using a facial sponge. Just add a dab of oil to the sponge and gently rub it over your face in small circles. As the oil melts, it removes any built-up foundation, eye shadow, or blush. Don’t forget to wipe away lipstick and eyeliner, too.
  2. Cocoa Butter. This is another popular cooking oil that works absolute wonders in the bathroom. Cocoa butter is solid at room temperature, so slice off a small chunk and melt it in a microwave. Once it’s cool to the touch, dip the end of a water-moistened facial sponge into the oil and rub it gently on your face. Watch as your makeup wipes away and transfers to the sponge.
  3. Extra Virgin Olive Oil. EVOO not only makes delicious homemade vinaigrette, it also dissolves makeup to leave your skin clear and moisturized. Add a few drops to your favorite makeup sponge and massage it into your forehead, cheeks, and chin. Don’t forget to also wipe away bronzer from your neck or décolletage.

Once you’ve cleaned off all your makeup, grab a facecloth and soak it in clean water that’s as warm as your face and hands can stand, but not so hot that you risk burns. Squeeze the cloth to remove excess moisture and lay it over your face, allowing it to cool. With a light touch, use the cloth to remove the oil, then rinse it well. Repeat this process until you feel as though all the oil is gone.

Done? Now let these natural moisturizers calm and hydrate your skin. Slip on a relaxing sleep mask and dim the lights — it’s time for some beauty sleep!
